This egg was originally made for Varvara Kelkh, a wealthy Russian heiress, who commissioned seven Easter eggs which rivaled in importance and beauty those given to Empress Alexandra Fedorovna. In fact, over the years, the Kelkh Easter Eggs have, on occasions, been identified and sold as Imperial eggs. This egg is composed of overlapping disks enameled with translucent blue over a guilloche ground with more than 1,000 individually set Austrian crystals. The egg's surprise is a miniature elephant that, when opened reveals its own surprise, a cobalt blue egg pendant. Height 3 3/4" without stand.
